I felt this was an important question that needed to be answered to kick off this website. Why am I doing this? It’s a question I’ve been asked a number of times already. First I would say, I think it needs to be done. We have a great program coming off a sweet 16 run in the best conference in the country and I think we’re under supported within the VT fanbase. Cassell Coliseum is one of the best home court advantages in the country (only after the kids come back in January), but I still feel that fans in order of support are football, football, football, football then finally basketball. I’m hoping I’m able to shine more light into this program and build support across our students and especially our alumni. Secondly I’m doing it because I love it. I attended VT and am an alumni who has followed our program since the Jamon Gordon and Zabian Dowdell days. Recruiting is something that I believe is a necessity for a successful program so I’ll definitely highlight that, but we’re also going to be here to cover everything from games, match-up previews to recruiting. I look forward to running this with the help of some students and friends. Can’t wait to hear from all of you and build this together. As a fan, we’ve needed a basketball-centric site for a while. (Was it Techhoops that shut down ~7 years ago?) Several Hokie sites do a good job with basketball, but football is always king with content and resource allocation.
I’m not sure of your or your other contributors background, but definitely get someone to help edit as soon as possible. When reading your first few articles I noticed a lot that can be cleaned up and stream-lined. It may not seem important now (and I’m sure you all will develop these skills over time), but if you’re gonna be THE site to go to for VT basketball and not just another fan blog, you might as well strive for perfection out of the gate!
